We just drove 4250 miles across America...

...in 20 days! And, boy, are we exhausted.

Greetings from Park City, Utah! It's a balmy 35°F here (or 2°C) but it's about to get a lot colder. We got here this past weekend after driving over 4250 miles (6850 kms) from Florida, across the Gulf Coast and the Southwestern states.

Travelling that quickly has been really exhausting for us. There have been a few nights in the past week that I've been to bed at 6pm! It's a good reminder that travelling full time means you need to balance your fast travel with some slower travel to avoid burn out.

It will take us at least a few weeks to recover but we're in a great place for it. Park City is one of our favourite spots in the US. It's small and easy to get around but still has a tonne of amenities. And don't forget the snow! After spending the summer on the East Coast and the fall in Florida, some cooler weather is actually quite nice for a change.

If you're from the US, enjoy your Thanksgiving this Thursday! If I come across any amazing Black Friday or Cyber Monday travel deals, I'll be sure to let you know.

Where We've Been

This was our biggest travel month yet! We started with a 6 night cruise around the Caribbean, then visited Sanibel Island in Florida. After a quick stop in Fort Lauderdale, we hit the road. New Orleans was by far our favourite stop on our road trip from East to West. I can't wait to write about it! We also met up with my long lost cousin and her family in Austin which was very special. We went sand boarding at White Sands National Monument. And let's not forget that we ran in Ozzy Osbourne in Roswell!

Here's a sneak peek at my latest post!

My Ultimate Gift Guide for Families Who Love Travel is not going live until tomorrow so you're seeing it first!

I'm sharing gift ideas for families, like us, that prioritise travel in their life. Travel lovers can be hard people to buy gifts for so hopefully this post helps you decide on what to buy your travel loving loved ones or what you'd like to add to your holiday wish list!

Travel Tip of the Month

Tips for Packing Carry-On Only

We tried out travelling carry-on only recently on our cruise and road trip using my new backpack (see bleow!). It worked great! Travelling carry-on only can save you a tonne of time at check in and gets you out of the airport or cruiseport faster at the other end. You'll also save money on extra baggage fees. Here are a few tips for travelling carry-on only:
  • Roll clothes tightly and use packing cubes. I love these ones from Eagle Creek. One packing cube for each family member works well for us with a Ziploc bag for underwear inside each one.
  • Cut down on toiletries. Pack them in a clear Ziploc bag. Use refillable bottles under 100ml, squeezable ones are best. Choose items that do double duty e.g. coconut oil which can be used for moisturiser, shaving oil, massage etc.
  • Create a capsule wardrobe. You really only need a few items of clothing if you plan them right! Make sure all your clothing mixes and matches. Have a look at these minimalist packing lists from Travel Fashion Girl.

Behind the Scenes

What's it like to drive thousands of miles cross-country with kids? Well, it's not always easy! Here's what it looks like! We limit our travel time to under five hours, time drives in with Hazel's nap time and try not to do too many long drives back to back.

Travel Product of the Month

I upgraded my luggage last month to this amazing backpack - The Kelty Redwing 40L. You guys, it's incredible! Tough, lightweight and with a tonne of storage. I can fit a week's worth of gear for our whole family in this backpack! Great for travelling carry-on only. It's extremely comfortable and the small size makes it perfect for women and teens. There's also a 44L or 50L which would be great for guys.
