Is it safe to travel right now?

With the recent terrorist attacks in Brussels, Turkey and Pakistan, how do you feel about travelling right now?

I can totally understand why you'd feel scared about travelling at the moment but, by cancelling your travel plans and choosing to live in fear, you are letting terrorism win. Terrorist want you to be afraid, to live in terror. You must choose not to live your life in fear. Fear does not serve you positively in anyway.

After the Paris terrorist attacks last year, Steph from 20 Something Travel wrote this fantastic post on why you should not cancel your travel plans because of terrorism. I would encourage you to read it and reflect on it right now. If you'd like to voice your opinions, we're having a discussion on Facebook about it. Click here to join.

Continue living your life and, if travel is a part of that then, continue to travel.

Where We've Been

This month we went to Melbourne, Australia for 9 days. Melbourne is a great city for foodies! I had some great meals there including a few visits to Din Tai Fung which is my favourite restaurant chain in the world.

While we were in Melbourne we did a day trip to Phillip Island. We explored the island, went to a Koala sanctuary and watched the amazing little penguins come to shore in the evening. I'll be writing about this very soon!

Reader Questions: Where should I stay in LA if I'm not hiring a car?

Karen asks: Where should I stay in LA if I'm not hiring a car? Hollywood, Downtown, Beverley Hills...so confusing!!!

Driving in LA can be very scary so I totally understand you not wanting to hire a car. If you want to do all the touristy stuff in LA without a car you're best off staying in Hollywood. Here are some hotel suggestions in Hollywood.

If you've done the touristy things before and want to see a different side of Los Angeles, stay out in Santa Monica or Venice Beach. Both areas are very walkable which makes not having a car a non-issue. Here are some hotel suggestions for Santa Monica and for Venice Beach.

Travel Tip of the Month

Sign up for price watch alerts on Hotels.com!

Hotels.com is one of my favourite hotel booking sites because you can collect reward points that give you a free hotel night after ten stays. One of the features I've just learnt about on Hotels.com is their price watch alerts. You can add a hotel you're looking at to a list of hotels you're watching and receive email alerts when the price goes up or down. I set up an alert for a hotel I'm looking at in Hong Kong and just got an email telling me the price had dropped $20 for the dates I was looking at!

Behind the Scenes

While we were in Melbourne we visited Brighton Beach, home to the famous "bathing boxes". These little wooden beach huts are cute and colourful, a great place to take some family photos!
