Would finding out about your Ancestry DNA shape how you travel?
I just had my DNA tested to discover more about my ancestry and the results are in!
I'm 100% European with my genetic make up coming from 41% Western Europe, 31% Great Britain and 21% Irish! Not only that my test also showed me the breakdown of some of the specific genetic communities I belong to like the South-West of England, Munster in Ireland and Scotland.
On Ancestry.com you can also connect with people who have shared ancestry with you and find mysterious relatives you've not come across before. I've been fleshing out my family tree using some of this which is very exciting. So far I've been able to go back as far as 1498 to find an 11th great-grandfather!
It's SO fascinating and will definitely impact any future travels I take to Europe. I am very interested to go to Devon and Cornwall as that has popped up a lot in my tree as well as the very North of England, the Isle of Wight and County Tipperary in Ireland.
Right now you can get 30% Ancestry DNA testing kits like the one I used from Ancestry.com. (Don't worry it's not scary. All you have to do is spit into a test tube and mail it back!) It is such a fascinating process to undertake and I feel like I'm now off on a journey to learn more about my family tree and the places my ancestors have come from, what life was like for them and connect with more people from my wider family tree. (This offer ends Tuesday 15 August.)
Are you thinking about getting your DNA tested to discover your ancestry? How would it shape the way you travel? If you've done a test like this, I'd love to know if you found anything surprising pop up in your results!
